BIG BEAR GEOCACHING Since they have Hwy. 330 closed for construction and 1N09 is closed as well, we did the caches along 3N16 instead . We met at the Discovery Center on Hwy. 38 at the usual 9:00 am. The day was clear and bright and a bit nippy (in the low 50's). We hit the trail a little after 9 and made our way past Gold Mountain and turned towards the dump. The first cache we hit was along this road and we had to hike about 200 yards to the east along a trail that went past an old cemetery. I’ve been down the road several times but never realized the cemetery was there. The next cache was just a ways down the road at a former town site. We then turned onto 3N16 and the next cache was by the Lucky Baldwin mine. It was a little hike to get to it but we found it. We hit a couple more along the way and about lunch time we hit one that we just couldn’t find. We looked for over ½ hour and decided to have lunch. After lunch we went back and still couldn’t find it so decided to move on. The next few caches were found after a little hiking and in one case a bit of rock crawling of a two legged kind. All in all we had 15 caches to find and we hit 12, and ended up 11 for 12, not a bad days work. The last three we had to leave for another day. Everyone had a good time and I’m sure slept well that night with all the hiking we did. I know I did. Everyone was able to find a couple of caches so that was good. Jim and Paul were at a bit of a disadvantage with their GPS’s but managed. Along for the fun were: Jim & Margaret Hein, Dennis & Casey Sullivan, Paul Coursey with guest (Ken), Tom Pastore, Rick Schaffer without Suzy, and Pat and I with Molly the Wonder Dawg (I wonder what she’s going to get into next)
