Bishop Fall Color Weekend The weather was great – sunny and moderate in the daytime – cool at night; windy in camp Sunday. In Bishop on Saturday morning at 9:00 am the FITS contingent: Bob Day & Sally Kinsey, Jon &Dale Rice, Suzy & Rick Schaffer and Suzy’s nephew Jeff Doest with son Cordero and friend Nick, met the Mammoth Lakes/Eastern Sierra 4WD Club 7 vehicle group led by club president Karl Schnadt. We headed for the moderately difficult Coyote Creek Trail which meandered from 4400’ through spots of bright aspens to 11,000’ in 16 miles of fairly steep switchbacks with fantastic scenery, including a lunch stop at Coyote Lake, and a side trail that Karl knew about that showed off the awesome view from Coyote Ridge of peaks sporting snowy glaciers. On Sunday groups started from both Bishop and Mammoth to meet midway with a combined group of 10 vehicles. Karl Schnadt led the difficult run up Sand Canyon and Wheeler Ridge. This trail combination was just under eleven miles long with some rocky technical switchbacks going to 11,000’. You had to pick your line on the fly as you rounded each corner. The aspens were lovely. The scenery was spectacular. We would like to thank Karl Schnadt for his excellent trail selection and guidance on the runs. During free time, not on these two runs, FITS members reveled in the Fall color by going to Lake Sabrina, North Lake, South Lake and up Rock Creek Canyon to Rock Creek Lake. Needless to say, many pictures were taken. The Days and Rices also went to the Bristlecones via Silver Canyon (4wdroad) Trail and returned via Hwy 168, which has 8% grades. We had a great weekend thanks to a lot of great people who were there. We would like to welcome our newest members, Mike and Allie Nieto to the club. Mike is putting the final touches on his Jeep, one he had to buy since Allie insists on driving theirs off road. His and her Jeeps! COOL!
