ANZA BORREGO
By Bob Day & Sally Kinsey

Sally & Bob met Casey & Dennis Sullivan camping at Pegleg Smith's Monument on Thursday afternoon. On Friday, we went out for an exploratory run across Clark Dry Lake up Rockhouse Canyon.

We made our way along washboard washes and rocks to the end of the trail at the Anza Borrego State Park/Wilderness boundaries, leaving a 4.6 mile hike to another day. On the return run, Dennis managed to hit a rock wrong and developed a clanking noise that, because of his well-stocked parts inventory, he was able to fix once back in camp.

On Saturday, the weather was clear and beautiful. We met the rest of the group at Christmas Circle: Sally & Bob, Casey & Dennis, Pat & Bob matula and guests Barbara & Tom Moore and Don Wintz.

We cruised down to Carrizo Badlands, then left pavement and aired down. On our first stop was Palm Spring, a former Butterfield Stage stop and home of the elusive pupfish.

Then we went ofer to Arroyo Tapiado, which hides more than 22 mud caves, including the longest and largest in the world. After a unch stop at shady slot canyon with two arches, we briefly entered (using flashlights) a couple of mud caves. We happily noticed that they had suffered little damage from this season's storms.

We crossed over to Arroyo Seco Del Diablo, ran along it to Canyon Sin Nombre, then back to pavement. Mostof the tun was in sandy washes with a couple of 4x4 ridges. Patches of flowers, blooming ocotillo and cactus were seen. It was a scenic Pretty Little Flower (PLF) run!
