LOS COYOTES INDIAN RESERVATION
By Rick Schaffer

October 18th was fair and bright as five Jeeploads of FITS members gathered in the Los Coyotes Reservation campground. They were Casey & Dennis Sullivan; Elaine, Andy & Matthew Vique; Becky, don & Nicholas Clevenger; Jon & Dale Rice; and Sally & Bob Day.

We waited for a while for a potential guest, Pete Lutchka, who ultimately joined us after lunch in a very built up Damaurai. We would like to thank the Rice's for helping on the prerun.

Advertised as an easy 2-3 run, most of the roads were smooth with some deep erosion pits. We pass by but did not take some of the more notable Los Coyotes obstacles, including the notorious Jim Bays Hill (otherwise known as Hot Dog Hill). Lady Bug Lane offered the greatest challenge of the day, with a tree to climb around and a few rocks to scramble. The trees can sometimes be very narrow to pass through. We then found the traditional locked gate at the border to Anza Borrego.

We had a magnificent vista along Appian Way, then settled in the shade of some stately oaks amongst a generous supply of cow patties for lunch. We then headed down Dead Cow Road, but didn't see any of the namesake beasts.

Finally, we traveled along Tough Road and Quiet Road to the old fire watchtower. We were treated to gliders, one of whom did a fighter jet like dive into the adjacent canyon, followed by a screaming climb out right over our heads. What a finale!

TRIP COMMITTEE MEETING

The trip committee meeting was held at Steve Frank's house on Wednesday, October 22nd. We put together what we thought would be a pretty good year of runs, but thanks to Ma Nature and all the fires we will have to rethink what we do next summer, since it doesn't look like we'll be able to do much in the Big Bear/Arrow/Silverwood area.

In this newsletter is the schedule as it stands. We should be good through May, but June through September will have to be revised once we know more about what will be closed.

NOVEMBER CLUB MEETING

The November meeting will be one week earlier than usual, on November 19th, because of Thanksgiving. DON'T FORGET!
