TRUCKHAVEN
by Russ "Wrong Way" Chersky
Saturday morning we met just below the turnoff for the "Road Closed" road that we usually use. We aired down and had our drivers meeting and proceeded to head out to the trail with Mike and Carol Kelly in the lead. Mike wanted to show us 2 loop trails they went on, on the MDA run a couple of weeks earlier. One of the loops was so much fun especially the off camber, that we did it twice. Actually, Mike made a wrong turn and ended up back on the same trail. Something easy to do at Truckhaven. My ARB decided to quit on me (I like to push the buttons to check out the ARB at the start of the trail so I don't hold up the group later on a hard section). It turns out that ARB can't build a good harness, so I fixed it with a little creative wiring. We were then back on our way, but with one less vehicle. It seems that Jay and Ellen were up too late the night before, didn't have breakfast, and weren't feeling good, so they bid us farewell and headed home with their Grand Cherokee. It's probably a good thing, since they would have had some problems with some of the areas we went. At this point, I took over the lead from Mike and headed out into the hills. We tooled around up and down hills, and through some interesting notches. The only strap victim was Mike Chersky. Thanks for the yank Jim Bays. Somewhere along the way there could be heard whining about needing touch up paint for fender flares. It seem that at one place there was a rock sticking out on the right that everyone except the Kellys hit with their right rear fender flare. The Kellys hit it with their spare tire! But, other than that everyone did great! We had lunch under the palms at the oasis (and found anatomically correct rock people reclining under one palm). After lunch we played in the foothills for a while then found 5 fingers (now about 7 fingers) which is a little high climb area, and ended the club run. Dave Trice, Ric Jones and I headed up the wash to Hwy. 86 and home while the rest went cross country back to the motor homes on S-22. It was a good run, fun for all, with some surprises and challenging sections. Members present: Dave Trice and girls, Jerry MacDonald, Jim Bays, Mike Chersky, James Dye, Ric Jones with Brad Quick riding along, Steve Frank, and Mike and Carol Kelly. Guests: Michelle ? (Steve's fiancee), and Jay & Ellen Jiminez. Damage report: 1 ARB wiring harness, 1 broken swaybar mount, 1 painted TJ fender flare. No names mentioned!

LATEST MEMBER
We would like to welcome our newest members Jay and Ellen Jiminez. They drive a
modified Grand Cherokee that survived John Bull last year. (It's ok Jay, I won't
mentioned that you had to be strapped back to the highway when your fuel pump
went out there. Ric).

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"Anything but a Jeep is a sissy car." From JACK FROST staring Tom
Hanks. His wife drove a Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and this was her reply when he told
her he wanted to make a lot of money and buy her a new car. My kind of woman!

SPECIAL GUEST
A couple of months ago I wrote about this guy who I met at my garage sale. He
told me about all these things that the Greenies are doing. Well, his name is
Don Fife and I'm going to try and get him to give his presentation at one of our
meeting. We might consider having it at a larger place, and maybe include some
other clubs. I would highly recommend that you attend, as well as anyone else
that you can drag there. I guarantee you will come away better informed and
probably very upset at what is going on.

GPS TRAINING
I'm working with a group out of Ridgecrest that will for $10 a person give a GPS
training session then put on a little trip where you will put what you learned
to work.. Kind of like a rally, but you will be given instructions on where to
go at each way point. It should be fun and a chance to finally learn about that
GPS you bought. They will also rent one for $10 a day if you don't have one. It
will also be a good way to see what the different units are like. If you are
interested, please give me a call so I can get some idea of how many they should
expect. This is open to anyone.
